Step-by-Step Instructions for Tater Tot Casserole
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown 1 pound of ground beef with diced onions for about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Add 1 can of cream of mushroom soup and 1 cup of sour cream to the beef mixture in the skillet. Stir well and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  4. Lightly grease a 9x13 inch casserole dish and spread the beef mixture evenly across the bottom.
  5. Evenly sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the beef layer.
  6. Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the cheese.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until tater tots are golden brown.
  8. Sprinkle another cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the tater tots and bake for an additional 5 minutes until the cheese is melted.
