Ingredients

For the Cake Layers
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Substitute with gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version.
  • 1 cup cocoa powder Dutch-processed cocoa can enhance its color and taste.
  • 2 cups granulated sugar Coconut sugar works well for a healthier option.
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder Ensure it's fresh for optimal rise.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Skip if using salted butter.
  • 4 large eggs Room temperature eggs blend better into the batter.
  • 1 cup milk You can use almond milk for a dairy-free version.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Almond extract makes a delightful alternative.
  • 6 ounces melted chocolate Use semi-sweet or dark chocolate per preference.
  • 1 cup pureed strawberries Substitute with raspberries for a berry twist.
For the Frosting
  • 8 ounces cream cheese Substitute with mascarpone for a richer taste.
  • 1 cup butter Use unsalted butter for better control over the salt levels.
  • 4 cups powdered sugar Feel free to reduce for less sweetness.
